Rubyfive Design is an 'agency' of one. This means you'll work directly with me, founder and designer, Steph Holt.
With 15+ years as a designer and a plethora of other industry experience, I'll bring a wealth of knowledge and skill, and a whole lot of passion for what I do, to your business. Why not just hire a full time designer?Hiring a full-time designer can be costly (upwards of $130k p/a!) and comes with responsibilities like employment contracts, taxes, KiwiSaver, annual leave, not to mention equipment, office and tech costs. With Rubyfive Design, you get the expertise of a senior level, professional designer without the huge costs and commitment of a full-time hire. We're a flexible and cost-effective solution for all your design needs.

Is there a limit to the number of requests I can have?No, there is no limit to the number of requests you can have with our monthly plans. You can submit as many design requests as you need, and your designer will work on them one or two at a time (depending on your plan).

I'm not sure I'll have enough work to stay subscribed on a monthly rotation, what do I do?That's the beauty of a cancel anytime subscription, it also means you can reactivate it anytime! You can keep your subscription for however long you need it, and if you feel you need to cancel it for a time that's totally fine! Your client portal will remain dormant for up to 12months, so when you're ready to reactivate your subscription we can go live on the portal again with no loss of content.

I've got a big job, surely you can't do that in 2 or 3 days?!No bots here! While we strive for fast turnaround times, the completion time for a project depends on its complexity and size. However, we strive to deliver high-quality designs as quickly as possible. If a project or design request is likely to take longer than the typical turnaround time, you'll be given an indication of what to expect and receive regular updates and reviews of the project as it is developed.

Why can't you just give me a quote or charge me by the hour?We'd much rather get the design started for you than spend time writing a quote, sending you the quote, waiting for your approval, asking for a deposit, waiting for the deposit to clear and then finally get designing! And if we charge you by the hour, how do you know what your invoice looks like at the end? We're all about transparency, and getting the job done - we believe this is a win win for everyone.

Is there anything that's not included in the subscription?Really big projects such as comprehensive brand design or a website build aren't included in the subscriptions, but its absolutely something Rubyfive Design offers. Each job is quoted on a case by case basis, so please do reach out to discuss your project further.

How do revisions work?Revisions work in a similar way to original design requests. Simply tell us what you'd like changed, and your designer will make the adjustments and submit the revised design for your review. We will keep tweaking the design until you're 100% satisfied.

What happens if I have requests leftover at the end of my month?If you have kept your plan active your requests simply stay in the queue and rollover to the next month. If you cancel your subscription your Client Portal will be deactivated and any remaining jobs will not be completed.

Who owns the designs after the projects are completed?You do! All finalised and approved artwork is completely yours, we'll just hold onto the working files and any concepts or versions that didn't make the cut.

Do I need to sign a contract?No, as long as you agree to the terms of service when you sign up, that's all we need.

What if I don't like the design?Your satisfaction is our priority. If you're not happy with a design, please let us know. We'll make revisions based on your feedback until you're satisfied with the result.

Are there any refunds?Due to the high quality nature of the work, refunds are not offered. We provide top-notch work with unlimited revisions designed to meet your satisfaction.

Why shouldn't I just find a freelancer using a freelancer platform like Fiver or Upwork?Depending on the nature of the work you require, using a freelancer on a freelance platform might be a suitable option for you. It is important to note, however, that lower prices do not always guarantee top-quality work, experienced professionals, or efficient service. When utilising freelancing platforms, it is common to have restrictions on the number of revisions and requests you can make. By contrast, Rubyfive Design offers unlimited revisions and requests across all subscription plans, ensuring that you receive the best possible service and an outcome you can be assured you'll be happy with.

What happens to any active jobs if the subscription doesn't get renewed?Any jobs in progress will always be completed, but if the subscription doesn't get renewed (or gets cancelled) then no new jobs will be started. Your portal will go dormant while you don't have an active subscription. You can always choose to reactivate your subscription at which point your portal can go live again and any jobs that were sitting in the queue can be started.

What if I only have one request?Our subscription model is designed to work best with businesses with ongoing design needs. If you have a one off request, you can subscribe until your task is complete. Because we have no fixed terms you can cancel your subscription at any time and reactivate it if you have another request.

Is there any design work you don't do?Naturally we can't do it all! Rubyfive Design does not undertake the following design work: illustrations, 3D modeling, animated graphics (GIFS, etc), interactive document design (fillable forms), complex packaging, and extensive print design (magazines, books, etc.).

What programs do you design in?We use Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign for our print design and Wix for website design.
