REAL CLIENT CASE STUDY

The Picton Bookshop

Strategy & Creative Direction / Logo Design & Branding / Print & Marketing

Opening a bookshop had been a long-time dream for Megan, and when the time came to bring it to life, she knew strong branding would be essential to the shop’s success. She was looking for someone she could trust to guide the process—someone who would truly understand the vision and help create a brand with heart.

From the beginning, we knew this would be more than just a logo—it would be a full identity that shaped the space and experience of the bookshop itself.

The approach.

Through a Discovery session, we uncovered the emotional heart of the brand: the joy of reading, a sense of comfort, and the feeling of being welcomed into a cosy space of escape. The goal was to create a visual identity that would appeal to book lovers of all ages—whether seasoned readers or those just discovering the magic of books.

We explored three distinct visual directions through stylescapes, designed to represent different aesthetic possibilities. Megan immediately connected with one—it captured everything she had imagined. This clarity helped shape the logo, colour palette, and even influenced interior design decisions for the shop.

The chosen logo balances timeless literary charm with a fresh, independent feel. A secondary version in te reo Māori embraces the multiculturalism of Waitohi Picton and reflects Megan’s desire for inclusivity.

Kind words

"When I contacted Steph I knew we were off to a positive start when she suggested we meet for a coffee. Many coffees later, the branding for The Picton Bookshop is beautiful.

The process that Steph took us through was rigorous and thorough. Everything was well thought through and it has been a lot of fun. Steph's attention to detail is meticulous and her appreciation and enthusiasm for our business has made working with her easy. Some of the strengths Steph has brought to our project are her ability to solve problems creatively and her excellent communication skills.

We are looking forward to continuing our working relationship as the business progresses!"
